Daydreaming of Saving the World

The records told him they didn't all sign in and out every day.  Sometimes,
some of them were gone for weeks.  Some of them never signed out again.

When he'd arrived, they told him deep space telemetry.  He might not have
clearance to go any further than the first two levels, but he was fairly
certain that looking through telescopes or messing with computers, wasn't
something that Marines often did.  Nor could it possibly account for the
injuries he'd seen on the four who signed in and out least frequently.

On quiet shifts, he daydreams about them saving the world.
